Four years ago, I jokingly said to my friends at work, "Wouldn't it be funny to take a trip out west in a van, and take a miniature donkey along with Hauling my little Ass across the Nation on it?" Though it was just a silly thought at the time, I could never really shake it.
After my friend Chris, lost her battle with cancer, I decided to step out in faith and follow my dream. In a matter of two months, I had the van and the donkey, whom I named Levi, after Chris's grandson.
Chris had a zest for life and for helping others. She had planned on getting an RV and traveling when she retired. My journey is a memorial for her.
When I asked her daughter Sarah, what non profit organization she would have wanted to support, she immediately responded, Project Healing Waters. I found out that they help heal and rehabilitate wounded Veterans through fly fishing. They have chapters in all states.
Traveling with Levi, is hard to go unnoticed. The van has a patchwork quilt design with Christie's Quilt painted across the top. Written across the back doors, is my blog url... HAULING MY LITTLE ASS ACROSS AMERICA.COM. Many people get a good laugh when they see a donkey is actually riding in the back of the van.
Levi enjoys seeing new sights as much as I do, and we meet many, nice people each time we set out on a new adventure. . Whether we're traveling in the van, on a trail hiking, or stopped somewhere along the way, people stop to ask about him. This opens the door to converse and tell them about Chris and Project Healing Waters.
My hope is it will lead others to contribute in some way to this beautiful source of healing to those who freely and bravely serve or have served our country to ensure our freedom.

The very first entry is all about Chris and the rest is a journal of the steps I've taken to follow my dream and those who helped make it come to life. Thank you all.
